Art-skills Programme

The Art-skills Primary Art Programme provides a strong foundation for creativity across the school, ensuring pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 gain high-quality art instruction from a qualified artist. Developed in line with the 2013 National Art Curriculum and updated to reflect the 2023 Ofsted review, the programme offers a progressive one-day workshop for each year group. Children explore observational drawing, painting, colour theory, collage, and sketchbook use with professional materials, while teachers benefit from seeing best practice in action. The sessions not only support classroom management of creative activities but also inspire confidence, curiosity, and a love of art for both pupils and staff.

“Having a professional artist working in our school has been useful as I was able to ask Becky for design advice for an upcoming DT project. Becky suggested ideas on how to create various structures and the best resources to use. She demonstrated the skills and technique needed to create the project, which I then used to experiment with and develop my own ideas into a successful project. This cross-curricular support has been invaluable for my own CPD.” Harriet Sharples, Year 4 teacher – DT lead St Frances de Sales Junior School 2024
